The caliper log is used to measure the diameter of a borehole.  This information can be used to identify washed-out zones or fractures. This is a great tool if well abandonment is being considered as the amount of grout can be calculated, and potential problem areas identified.  This tool can be used to develop an idea of borehole rugosity and may be useful in identifying the quality of the casing/rock interface.
